Think About The Decor
When decorating (and redecorating) most designers prefer to start with the area rug, because a smart rug choice is the foundation to any room’s good design. Think of your floor as a fifth wall in your room.
Your rug will interact with multiple design elements so consider the feel you want to gain from your new space. Are you looking to create a bold dramatic statement of high energy or one that is more relaxed, subdued and understated?
Are you looking to spice up your space with the addition of color or do you need your rug to pull existing colors together? Are you looking to add visual elements or create a static foundation? What type of flooring will the rug be on? Do you want formality or put-your-feet-up casual?
The greatest design successes are achieved when you are able to contrast and compliment elements in your room. Take some time to sit in, and really look around your room.
